Chris Stapleton Announces New ‘Higher’ Album, Drops ‘White Horse’ [LISTEN]

Chris Stapleton has a new album, coming out later this year. The father of five announces he will release Higher, a 14-track project, on November 10. Stapleton also dropped “White Horse,” the debut single from the project.

Stapleton announced the new project on social media.

Higher, Stapleton’s fifth studio album, follows Starting Over, released in 2020. That record included two No. 1 singles, both the title track and “You Should Probably Leave.”

Stapleton became the reigning ACM Entertainer of the Year earlier this year, an honor he admitted he did not expect to win.

“By any imaginable metric, I don’t deserve this, but thank you,” Stapleton, who shared the category with Jason AldeanKane BrownLuke CombsMiranda Lambert  Carrie Underwood  and Morgan Wallen,  said from stage. “There are so many other great people in this category. I stand up, and I play music. That’s what I try to do every night. I write songs, and I make records.”

Backstage after his win, Stapleton acknowledged he had a hard time processing being the recipient of the Entertainer of the Year trophy.

“I’m humbled by it,” Stapleton later said. “And I feel very thankful to the people that voted for me for it, that think that I’m deserving of that. I’m not sure that I am, but I’ll take it. I’ll take it.”

Stapleton has a few more shows on the road with George Strait, including two back-to-back concerts in Nashville, serving as the opening act for Strait’s run of stadium shows. For a man who can sell out large venues on his own, Stapleton is thrilled to open for the King of Country Music.

“I love doing these shows with George about as much as I like doing anything,” Stapleton said of the tour. “There’s nothing to compare it to. So many of his songs are in the ethos of what country music is. Playing these shows together is a great experience all the way around.”

In addition to “White Horse,” Stapleton also joins Carly Pearce on her current single, “We Don’t Fight Anymore.”
