Dolly Parton Looks Back on ‘Amazing Journey’ With ‘Dolly: The Ultimate Collection’ DVD Set

Dolly Parton is reliving some of her favorite memories from her iconic career, spanning more than 50 years, in Dolly: The Ultimate Collection, a 19-DVD set. Released by Time Life, the massive set includes episodes of her variety show and her time on The Porter Wagoner Show, her 2002 Live and Well concert, the entire Song by Song: Dolly Parton series, TV appearances, exclusive interviews with notable celebrities like  Vince Gill, Miranda Lambert, Brad Paisley Kenny Rogers, Carrie Underwood and more.

“It’s been an amazing journey and you’ll find some of my most precious highlights included here in this collection,” said Dolly in a statement. “Thank you to the wonderful folks at Time Life for putting this together. What a delightful trip down memory lane….just the hair styles and outfits alone are worth a look and I’m surprised there are still any rhinestones left in this world! I hope you enjoy these moments as much as I did.”

Dolly recently opened up about one of the most challenging moments of her career, when she refused to give Elvis Presley publishing on “I Will Always Love You,” which meant he wouldn’t record the song.

“I was so excited that he was going to do it,” Dolly shared on a recent episode of  Reba McEntire‘s new podcast, Living and Learning with Reba McEntire (via Sounds Like Nashville). “And the night before the session, Colonel Tom called me and said, ‘You know, we don’t record anything with Elvis unless we have the publishing, or at least half the publishing.’ I said, ‘Well, that throws a new light on this, because I can’t give you half the publishing. I’m gonna leave that to my family.’

“I said, ‘I can’t do that,’” she continued. “And he said, ‘Well, then we can’t do it.’ And I cried all night. ‘Cause I thought, ‘Oh, I just pictured Elvis singing it.’ And I know that Elvis loved it. And I know it wasn’t him, but it’s true. I said ‘no.’”

Dolly: The Ultimate Collection comes in a collector’s box, and is only available for purchase at TimeLife.com.
