Dolly Parton Reveals Title, Collaborations on New Rock Album

Dolly Parton is sharing some details of her upcoming rock album, currently in progress. The 77-year-old reveals she has asked several of the biggest rock stars of all time to join her on the project, legends in the rock world who were eager to join the country music superstar on the record.

“I’ve got a lot of wonderful iconic songs people love and wonderful iconic singers joining me — like Elton John, who is on one of the songs he wrote. Paul McCartney sang with me,” Parton reveals on The Rachael Ray Show. “Hopefully we’re going to have Cher… We’ve got all kinds of wonderful people.”

Parton, who previously revealed that she was doing a collaboration with her goddaughter Miley Cyrus on “Wrecking Ball” for the record, had already been dreaming of doing a rock and roll album, especially since her husband, Carl Dean, is such a fan of that genre of music. But when she was asked to join the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame — an invitation she initially declined — she knew she couldn’t pass up the opportunity.

“As you know when I went into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, I wrote a little special song for that to sum up my feelings about how I wasn’t sure I was a rockstar … I thought if I’m ever going to do a rock and roll album — which I often dreamed someday I might — that the time is now,” Parton shares. “So, I reached out to a lot of friends who were on the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame with me when we were there those few days rehearsing. So, now I’m doing an album… It’s called Rock Star, and here I am at 77 going to be a rock star.”

Parton has plenty of other things to keep her busy besides new music. The Grand Ole Opry member recently expanded her Duncan Hines line to include biscuits, cornbread and brownies, and is also working on launching her own TV network as well.

“I probably will do something like [ American Idol or The Voice] in the future,” Parton hints to  Taste of Country. “I’m starting my own network. And so I’ll probably be doing different things at different times, and maybe create a show where it could really be positive. Although those are fantastic shows. I love watching it. I would just have trouble being a judge of somebody’s talent.”
