Garth Brooks Details Daughter Allie’s Battle With COVID-19

Garth Brooks’ family is healthy again, after his youngest daughter Allie, tested positive for COVID-19. In a virtual press conference held earlier this week, where Garth announced he was removing himself from the list of nominees for Entertainer of the Year, the 58-year-old opened up about her diagnosis and recovery.

“Her husband works with us every day,” Garth said, explaining why he and his wife, Trisha Yearwood, decided to quarantine themselves for two weeks. “That was the possible scare. So everybody went and got tested, and everybody tested negative, so we were back up and running pretty quick. She quarantined for another 14 days after her time as well, so she’s feeling great.”

Even though Allie, who goes professionally by the name Allie Colleen for her singing career, is 24 years old, that didn’t stop her father from worrying about her.

“Truth is, as a parent, nobody knows what COVID is going to do in the future,” Garth said. “So you just watch over them, you pray a lot and hopefully she’ll come out of this thing with just that. That would be wonderful … None of us has ever seen this before. As parents like you, like me, all you do is pray your knee bones off and hopefully following the guidelines so hopefully your family doesn’t have to experience this.”

The Country Music Hall of Fame member said he and Trisha have been using this time off the road to work on themselves, causing their relationship to be stronger than ever.

“This has probably been the most we’ve ever gone through as a couple,” Garth said. “But what’s on the other side is so dang great, especially when you’re with the right one. … The more you find out about somebody that you’re already in love with, the more you love them. That makes me a lucky man.”

“Trisha Yearwood might be the sweetest person on the planet, so if Trisha wants to kill you, you need to work on yourself,” he added. “That’s kind of what I’ve learned. But she has a sweet sense of letting you figure it out yourself.”

Garth won his seventh CMA Award for Entertainer of the Year last year, which is why he felt it was time to bow out of the category.

“My number is seven,” Garth said. “We feel very lucky with seven. And it’s time for somebody else to hold that award, know what that entertainer feels like, because they’re all out there busting their butts.”
