Jordan Davis Recalls Unexpected Reaction to ACM Awards Nomination

Jordan Davis has had a lot of surprises in his life, but none quite like the one he got earlier this month. The Louisiana native is nominated for an ACM Award for Male Artist of the Year, a category he shares with Kane Brown, Luke Combs, Chris Stapleton and Morgan Wallen.

“I haven’t been that shocked in a long time,” Davis tells his record label. “Definitely the most shocked I’ve been since I started doing music. I was definitely shocked to see that I was in that category. I knew I made it through to the last round, but, honestly, y’all see the other nominees in there, some heavy hitters. So, to hear my name first, it was pure shock.”

Davis was nominated for New Male Artist of the Year in 2019, with that trophy going to Riley Green. Still, for Davis, the leap in the span of just a couple of years is proof that his hard work is paying off.

“I think it goes to show that I’ve got a great team and great fans,” Davis says. “And two, we made some great music that is connecting with people. The awards are amazing, but to be nominated with those guys is a huge win for me.”

Davis is back at radio with “Next Thing You Know.” The song follows two back-to-back No. 1 hits, with both his  “Buy Dirt,” his collaboration with Luke Bryan, followed by “What My World Spins Around.” And already, it seems like “Next Thing You Know” will likely be his next chart-topping single.

“Our fans knew every lyric to ‘Next Thing You Know’ even before it was a single, and to watch the sold-out venues get bigger and bigger…. I’m just so grateful everyone has been so supportive,” Davis says.

Davis will spend his fall out on his headlining Damn Good Time Tour, but before that tour, the father of two — with one on the way — will join his good friend, Dierks Bentley, on the road. Davis will serve as direct support for all dates on Bentley’s Gravel & Gold Tour.

“When I grow up, I want to be Dierks Bentley,” Davis told his record label with a laugh. “I know I’ve made that joke before, but I just love that guy to death. I feel like I know not just Dierks, I know his band pretty well. Dan, his fiddle guy, I’ve known for longer than I’ve known Dierks. More importantly, it’s a master class. That band is so good. Dierks is an entertainer to the nth degree and just really, really great people.

“This job gets tough and being on the road with really good people makes it a little bit easier,” he continued. “And it doesn’t suck that Dierks can fly a plane, so we can be home pretty quick if he’s got any open seats.”

Both “What My World Spins Around” and “Next Thing You Know” are from Davis’ latest Bluebird Days album. Find all of Davis’ music and upcoming shows at JordanDavisOfficial.com.
