Lauren Alaina Announces Surprise Engagement: ‘I Did Not See It Coming’

Lauren Alaina is getting married! The American Idol alum made the surprise announcement while performing on Saturday, November 19 at the Grand Ole Opry, introducing Cameron Scott Arnold to the audience.

“Everybody, this is my fiancé,” Alaina gushed from stage. “I told him he had to come out here and we had to get a picture, so we’re doing it because this is the circle and I’m going to hold my hand up and do the thing. Make some noise for my future husband everybody!”

Alaina admitted that Arnold did not like to be the center of attention.

“He did not want to do that… He likes to be in the shadows, and he was like ‘You’re not making me come out there,’ and I said ‘You are not not getting a picture in the circle,” she said (via Music Mayhem). “So, we negotiated and he came out for the picture.”

“This is the most important place in the world to me and he’s the most important person to me, so, it was pretty amazing to put them together. And also, [he] did really good,” she added.

Alaina was still soaking up the news, as Arnold had only popped the question one day before her Grand Ole Opry performance.

“I talk a lot as y’all have seen and I did not speak for about 45 seconds when I looked at this ring and realized what was happening,” she said. “I did not see it coming. It was perfect in every way and I can’t wait to spend forever with him, so I wanted to share [it with you]. Nobody knows I haven’t told anybody, so I told you first.”

Later, the 28-year-old reflected on the proposal, and opened up about her relationship with Arnold.

“It was a night I will never forget,” Alaina told People. “I got to celebrate the best year of my life. I became a member of the Opry family in February, so I thought they should be the first to know I had been asked to be in another family as well.”

Alaina has kept her relationship with Arnold private throughout their relationship, making the public news of her engagement that much sweeter.

“This is the first time I’m showing Cameron to the world,” said the singer. “He has and will continue to be a sacred piece of my life. He keeps me grounded and gives me a piece of a normal everyday life that I didn’t have before him. We have been together for two and a half years, and we are just getting started. I can’t wait to be Mrs. Cameron Scott Arnold. I’m so excited for everyone to know who he and we are. The best is still to come.”

Alaina also shared the good news on social media.

It’s fitting that Alaina announced the good news from the Grand Ole Opry stage, since the place remains her favorite venue, both to perform and hear music. She will return again on December 1, to perform as part of the annual Opry Country Christmas celebration.

“The Opry’s my favorite place in the whole wide world, and Christmas is my favorite time of year,” Alaina told Everything Nash. “So it marries my two favorite things, just because of the deep-rooted tradition with the Opry and with Christmas and what Christmas means to me, and what the Opry means to me. It means family to me, both of them, and being with family and celebrating life. They bear very well together for me. So I’m very excited and hopefully, I can get some family members to come and be a part of it.

“My family goes to Opryland every year,” she continued. “I take my nephews every year to see the lights. So the Opry has already been a tradition of Christmas for us for the last few years. And now just to perform is the icing on the cake.”

A wedding date has yet to be revealed. Alaina is back in the studio, working hard on her “very country” new album, her first on Big Loud Records. Keep track of music and tour updates at LaurenAlainaOfficial.com.
