Lauren Alaina Says 'Stages' Is Her Most 'Personal Project' So Far

Lauren Alaina can’t wait for fans to hear her new album, Stages. The record, out on August 28, is the most personal project Alaina has ever released.

“I’ve been in Nashville for 15 years, making music and living a lot of life,” the American Idol alum says in a video shared on social media. “I’ve gone through so many stages. Stages of learning to be the human that I am, stages of heartbreak. Now the stage of motherhood and love. My new album, Stages, represents all these different stages in my life. Where I came from, what I’ve gone through, and where I am now. I wanted to be sure to tell my whole story. So, for the first time, I’m fully letting everybody see behind the curtain.”

Alaina captions the video by hinting that she will share much more of her story in the time leading up to the release of Stages.

“Over the next month, I can’t wait to take you through each stage and show you how this album came to life,” Alaina writes. “This is the most intentional and personal project I’ve ever created, and I’m so excited for you to experience all the visual pieces that help tell the full story.”

What Lauren Alaina Says About Her New ‘Stages’ Album

When announcing her new record, Alaina said Stages would cover the entirety of her life and career in country music.

“I’m fifteen years into a ten-year town and 31 years into a lifelong dream,” Alaina said. “Stages represents every version of me along the way: the dreaming, the breaking, and, ultimately, the becoming. There’s something on this album for everyone, no matter what stage of life they’re in. Stages is letting everyone see behind the curtain of the girl in the spotlight. It’s a reflection of the moments that shaped me and the dream that carried me through. It’s always been the same dream, different stages.”

The Songs On Lauren Alaina’s New Album, ‘Stages’

Stages includes Alaina’s current Top 15 single, “All My Exes,” a duet with Chase Matthew. The song is written by Alaina, along with Ben Johnson, Jimmie Gutch, and Whitney Phillips. Alaina, who is now happily married to her husband, Cam Arnold, says it is at least partly autobiographical.

“I wrote ‘All My Exes’ about a relationship I had that was, let’s just say not my best relationship,” Alaina tells Yahoo! Entertainment. “And we were fighting down on Broadway, actually. Everybody’s had a fight down on Broadway, right? If you’ve been to Nashville, you have.”

Alaina also sings with her good friend, Kane Brown, on a song called “Never Been In Love.”

“I remember falling for my husband and feeling different than I’ve ever felt before,” Alaina explains. “When you find true love and happiness, you realize how much you never had it in past relationships. I’m so excited to sing this song with my boy, Kane Brown. We’ve come a long way from those two kids singing ‘What Ifs’ ten years ago. It’s so exciting to sing this song to celebrate the love we have with our spouses and children.”
