Miranda Lambert Leaves Sony Music Nashville After 20 Years

Miranda Lambert is leaving her longtime record label, Sony Music. The 39-year-old announced the news on social media, along with photos of the albums she has released throughout her career so far.

“Since I was 19-years-old, Sony has been my home in Nashville,” Lambert writes. “Over the last 20 years together we have released albums that allowed me to share my story with the world, and we’ve reached heights I’d never even dreamed were possible. I’m so thankful for our time together and everything they made possible for me, yet I wouldn’t be true to myself if I wasn’t constantly looking for the next challenge and a new way to stretch my creativity. With that in mind, I’ve decided to say goodbye to my Sony family. I can’t wait to see what the next adventure holds.”

In 2003, Lambert came in third on Nashville Star, kicking off her wildly-successful career in country music. The Texas native released her debut Kerosene album, which had three Top 40 singles, including the title track. Lambert remained steady with hits on radio, but it wasn’t until her third album, Revolution, that Lambert began her reign at the top of the charts, beginning with “White Liar,” which became her first No. 1 hit.

Lambert released nine studio albums on Sony Music Nashville, including her latest Palomino, released last April. That record included “If I Was A Cowboy,” which became a Top 10 hit. She holds the record for the most ACM Awards won, including her latest win for Entertainer of the Year. Lambert was unable to attend the ceremony in person, while she wai in tour rehearsals for a series of overseas shows.

“It’s the first time to miss the ACMs in 17 years, so my heart’s a little broken,” Lambert said at the time, “I’ve been waiting for this for a really, really long time. I actually never thought it would happen. But thank you so much to the country music family for embracing me all these years, and continuing to support me. To the Academy, for everything … This one goes out to all the singer-songwriter girls out there that are putting their blood, sweat and tears into their guitar strings. We did it.”

Lambert will continue her Velvet Rodeo Las Vegas residency later this month. Find music and tour dates at MirandaLambert.com.
