A collaboration is coming between Parmalee and Jelly Roll! The “Take My Name” singers announced the news while performing at the recent Country Thunder music festival, revealing that the song, “Boots On Broadway,” is part of their next record.
“We did a song with our buddy Jelly Roll … We’ve been friends like ten years,” lead singer Matt Thomas tells Audacy’s KMLE Country 107.9 (Phoenix). “He’s one of our first people we met when we moved to Nashville. He comes out of our house and our lawyer introduced us, and he rolls out there with a couple of his buddies.
“They [were] just fresh out (of prison) too,” he continues. “Josh [McSwain] was like, ‘I don’t know if we going to write a song going to get robbed!”
After the massive success of “Take My Name,” the band’s third No. 1 hit, Parmalee is back in the Top 20 with “Girl In Mine,” their current single. Thomas wrote the song with Ashley Gorley, Casey Brown, Travis Wood and David Fanning.
“We were in co-write session and that was one of the ideas that a co-writer had,” Thomas told Everything Nash of the song. “And as soon as I heard that hook line, I was like, ‘All right, I’m in. This is fun. This is right along the same lanes of everything we’re doing, speaking right to a girl.’ It just had a vibe. We needed something fun like this.”
“Girl In Mine” and “Boots On Broadway” are from a forthcoming new album, scheduled to be released later this year.
“We’re working on it,” Thomas said. “If all goes well, maybe something by the end of summer or fall is what I’m kind of shooting for, but nothing’s set in stone. We’ve been cutting songs, and I think now it’s just time to start dropping some new songs. We’re getting ready to go. The next couple of months while we have a little time off the road, we get to write some more. The cycle really never stopped. You’re just always trying to beat the best song you have, and that’s all it really boils down to.”
