As Rascal Flatts prepare to say farewell to their fans, they are doing so with new music. The trio, made up of Gary LeVox, Jay DeMarcus and Joe Don Rooney, announced they will release a new EP, How They Remember You, on July 31.
“How They Remember You” is the title of the single, and the title of the seven-song EP that will be out in July,” Joe Don shared on the Today Show. “We’re really fired up to get new music to the fans and give them something, since we can’t go see them in person, and play music for them, which we love to do most of all. But giving them some music really feels good, and it felt good to get in the studio and record some stuff, and make hopefully some magic.”
The Flatts were supposed to be on their farewell Life is a Highway Tour right now. The tour unfortunately had to be canceled because of COVID-19, which is allowing the men some unexpected time at home.
“It’s been weird,” Gary acknowledged. “Being able to sleep in your own bed and see your family on a daily, every single day basis, all day long, it’s been really incredible, and a really nice time to sit back and just refocus and recalibrate on what’s really important in life. It’s crazy too, because I’ve been writing a lot, and so it’s really given me a lot of perspective on a lot of life. It’s been good.
“It’s been good to be home, and not traveling so much,” he added. “But also, sad because we can’t, with this quarantine thing too. We’re usually grinding right now, on tour.”
Rascal Flatts admitted they were heartbroken to not be able to tour this year, since they have previously announced that they will disband at the end of 2020, after two decades together.
“I cannot believe it’s been 20 years,” Jay remarked. “It’s gone by in the blink of an eye. It’s been an incredible 20 years. We’ve been very, very blessed, and very fortunate, to have fans that have literally grown up with us. It’s just been incredible. That’s the reason we wanted to go out this year, was to celebrate the 20 years that we’ve had with those fans, that have been so instrumental in allowing us to have the most incredible jobs in the entire world.”
