Rascal Flatts Reveal Their Favorite Memory From the Past 20 Years

As Rascal Flatts prepare to disband, after two decades together, they have plenty of great memories together from the past 20 years. But the trio, made up of Gary LeVox, Jay DeMarcus and Joe Don Rooney, reveal which memory is their favorite — and it wasn’t one of their performances at places like Madison Square Garden or Wrigley Stadium.

“The star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame would be one of my favorite memories, in 2011. That was really special,” Jay DeMarcus said, as part of a Q&A for CMA’s online Summer Stay-Cay.

“But it’s cool when your family goes to LA, because I remember as a kid doing it,” Gary added. “You see all the stars. So it’s weird when family goes there.”

Rascal Flatts sold millions of albums, sold out countless shows, and had numerous No. 1 singles, far exceeding any goals they ever set for themselves.

“You could never dream of fame and all of that,” Gary noted. “We just wanted to make music. It’s been an amazing journey. It’s really blown our mind, and it became something bigger than us. We never expected to have the position in life that we have, that we’ve been blessed with.”

Rascal Flatts will release their EP, How They Remember You, on July 31.

“’How They Remember You’ is the title of the single, and the title of the seven-song EP that will be out in July,” Joe Don shared on the Today Show. “We’re really fired up to get new music to the fans and give them something, since we can’t go see them in person, and play music for them, which we love to do most of all. But giving them some music really feels good, and it felt good to get in the studio and record some stuff, and make hopefully some magic.”

Saying goodbye is bittersweet for the Flatts. The threesome made the decision to disband, so they could work on other projects, but they admit the years have flown by.

“I cannot believe it’s been 20 years,” Jay acknowledged. “It’s gone by in the blink of an eye. It’s been an incredible 20 years. We’ve been very, very blessed, and very fortunate, to have fans that have literally grown up with us. It’s just been incredible. That’s the reason we wanted to go out this year, was to celebrate the 20 years that we’ve had with those fans, that have been so instrumental in allowing us to have the most incredible jobs in the entire world.”
