Reba McEntire just shared a clip of her in the upcoming movie, The Hammer. The film, which also stars her real-life boyfriend, Rex Linn, and former Reba co-star Melissa Peterman, will air in 2023.
According to Deadline, McEntire plays the role of Kim Wheeler, a real-life judge in Nevada, who died under mysterious circumstances. McEntire also serves as executive producer of the film, which Lifetime describes as “a made up story about a real life judge.”
Deadline describes McEntire’s role as “an outspoken, firecracker lawyer who is appointed Judge of the 5th District of Nevada, and is one of the few traveling judges left in America. After the reigning judge dies under suspicious circumstances, Kim finds herself covering a circuit that stretches between Las Vegas and Reno — a rugged, often desolate area where anything and everything can happen. With gavel in hand, she lays down the law with a no-nonsense brand of justice, that quickly earns her the nickname ‘The Hammer.’”

The Oklahoma native loved filming The Hammer, especially because it allowed her to work with two of the people closest to her.
“It’s been a lot of fun,” McEntire revealed on The Bobby Bones Show, speaking of filming The Hammer. “Rex Linn, my boyfriend’s in the movie, Melissa Peterman’s in the movie also. We shot it in Canada, and just had a blast. It will be out, I’m thinking next year, January sometime. I’m just now seeing the editing, I’m trying to get through the final stages of the movie. We had a blast shooting it.”
McEntire is also dreaming of starring in a reboot of her Reba show as well.
“We’ve been really trying hard to do a reboot on the Reba show, ’cause I really want to work with the people that I got to work with during that six-and-a-half years,” McEntire told Bones. “It was fun, the cast, the crew, everybody we got to work with and play with, they were wonderful people, and we wanted to get back together, like a reunion, and have fun. So hopefully that will happen one day.”
