Scotty McCreery, GUSI Release ‘Why She Gotta Be Like That’ Video [WATCH]

The official video of Scotty McCreery and GUSI’s collaboration on “Why She Gotta Be Like That” is out. The bilingual song, released last week, is a new twist on McCreery’s “Why You Gotta Be Like That,” from his 2021 Same Truck album.

“The director, Jeff Ray, is always so great to work with,” McCreery tells CMT. “He makes it so easy. Unfortunately, Gusi and I couldn’t be in the same city during the making of this video, but it feels like we are.”

Although the two singers were unable to film the video together, McCreery is pleased with the finished product, and hopes his fans are as well.

“I hope it brings a smile to their faces and that they love the song,” McCreery says. “And I hope if they are not familiar with Gusi, that they will have discovered a new musical fave.”

McCreery is one-quarter Puerto Rican, which is why he was thrilled to do a song in both English and Spanish.

“I’ve always thought it would be fun to bring the Latin part of my heritage into some of my music,” says McCreery. “I met GUSI after hearing him perform ‘Why You Gotta Be Like That’ on Instagram. It is always flattering to have someone cover one of your songs, and he’s so talented so I asked him if he would want to bring some Latin flavor to the track. He brought so much to it. It was so much fun to do a new take on this song as a duet with GUSI, so we decided to call this version ‘Why She Gotta Be Like That.’”

McCreery has been anything but idle since winning Season 10 of  American Idol in 2011. The North Carolina native just celebrated his fifth consecutive No. 1 hit, with “Damn Strait,” and seems poised to soon celebrate his sixth one, as “It Matters To Her inches closer to the top spot.

“I don’t think I’d be here without my family pushing me,” McCreery admits on the latest episode of CMT Stages.“They were the ones like, ‘Hey man, you’re good enough.’ I never quite wanted to believe it. I always thought there were better guitar players. I always thought there were better singers. I was like, ‘Why even try?’ They kind of gave me that push forward that I needed.”

McCreery is spending the next several weeks on the road, serving as the opening act for Brooks & Dunn on their REBOOT 2023 Tour.  Find music and tour dates at ScottyMcCreery.com.
