The American Idol alum has other milestones to celebrate besides being inducted into the North Carolina Hall of Fame. His  “Five More Minutes” single, the first of his five consecutive No. 1 hits,  just earned Triple Platinum certification, for sales in excess of three million, while “Damn Strait” just earned Platinum certification.

“I’ve always said that ‘Five More Minutes’ is my favorite song I’ve ever written,” McCreery said of the honor. “For it to become my first Triple Platinum single means it has really connected with the fans, and as a songwriter that’s what you hope for. ‘Damn Strait’ is one of the most fun songs I get to sing live each night. I’m excited to see the success of both of these songs recognized by the fans and the RIAA.”

McCreery might spend a lot of time in Nashville, especially as he works on his fifth studio album, but he still loves to return to Garner, North Carolina where he was raised, every time he can.

“I still love it so much. All my friends and my family are right there. … I think what makes Garner Garner is the people, and the small-town feel,” McCreery tells Taste of Country. “It’s getting bigger, but you can still go to Angie’s Restaurant and you’ll see all the folks I grew up going to church with, playing ball with. [My friends’ parents] might still go to eat there. It’s a trip down memory lane for me anytime I get to go back.”

McCreery is spending the next several weeks on the road with Brooks & Dunn,  serving as the opening act on their REBOOT 2023 Tour. Find music and tour dates at ScottyMcCreery.com.

A ceremony honoring McCreery and all of the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame inductees will take place on October 19 at Mooresville Performing Arts Center, in Mooresville, North Carolina. A limited number of tickets are available here.
