Scotty McCreery Is ‘Still Thankful’ That He Gets to Sing Josh Turner’s ‘Your Man’

Scotty McCreery Is 'Still Thankful' That He Gets to Sing Josh Turner's 'Your Man'

15 years ago, Scotty McCreery auditioned for Season 10 of American Idol in 2011, by singing a cover of Josh Turner‘s “Your Man.” Turner released “Your Man” in 2005, as the title track of his sophomore album. The song is written by Chris Stapleton, Chris DuBois, and Jace Everett.

McCreery not only won American Idol, but it began a successful country music career, one that continues today. In the years since then, McCreery has continued to look to Turner for inspiration. He also continues to perform “Your Man” in his live shows, albeit with slightly different lyrics.

“Every night at my shows, they say, ‘Oh, you’re the ‘Baby, lock them doors’ guy.,'” McCreery says in a video shared on social media. “I made those words up myself, too. The real words are, ‘Baby, lock the door.’ Josh is always asking me, ‘ How many doors do you have into your bedroom? How big is your house?'”

Regardless of the words, McCreery is forever grateful to Turner for letting him sing the iconic song.

“‘Your Man,’ it gave me my start, introduced me to America,” McCreery reflects. “And all these years later, I’m still thankful for Josh singing that song, Chris Stapleton writing that song, and the fact that I had the chance to sing that song on Idol.’

Scotty McCreery and Josh Turner Release Duet Version of “Your Man”

McCreery and Turner just released a duet version of “Your Man.” The song is from McCreery’s new 15 album, scheduled to be released on July 17, celebrating his 15 years as part of country music.

“I have been a major Josh Turner fan since ‘Long Black Train’ was released,” McCreery says of Turner. “Getting to know him has been something little Scotty would never have imagined, and having the honor of recording ‘Your Man’ with him is a moment I’ll never get over. If I was him, I would have been a little irritated that this teenage kid kept singing my songs on TV….but Josh has been nothing but gracious and kind to me from day one, and he even inducted me into the Grand Ole Opry a few years ago.

“They say you should never meet your heroes,” he adds. “But that certainly does not apply here. He’s become a mentor and valued friend.”

McCreery may be a fan of Turner, but the admiration goes both ways.

“I’m very honored to have been asked to sing on my song, ‘Your Man,’ on Scotty’s new project,” says Turner. “He came on the scene singing that song and has had a great career ever since.”

What Scotty McCreery Says About His ’15’ Album

When announcing his new record, the father of two said it is a way to honor his milestone anniversary as an integral part of country music.

“Fifteen years goes by like a flash,” McCreery says of 15. “Some days it feels like yesterday when I did my initial American Idol audition in Milwaukee, while other days it feels like it happened a hundred years ago. I’ve lived a lot of life, traveled millions of miles, and followed my dreams, all thanks to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, my family, my team, and all the fans who have supported me through these 15 years.

15 has some of McCreery’s biggest hits, plus four new tracks, including a cover of the Kris Kristofferson classic, “Why Me, Lord?” Pre-order is available now.
