Shania Twain Signs New Record Deal, Drops Debut Single [WATCH]

It is indeed the start of a new musical chapter for Shania Twain. The Canadian just released “Waking Up Dreaming,” her first single in five years, and her first with her new record label, Republic Nashville, a division of Republic Records. Twain is Republic Nashville’s flagship artist.

“I couldn’t think of a better partner than Republic Nashville,” Twain says of her new musical venture. “I’m honored and excited to be the label’s first artist and lead the charge of this new and exciting chapter. In this respect, it feels like a new beginning all around, and I’m embracing it wholeheartedly.”

“Shania is one of the most influential and impactful artists of this generation,” adds Republic Records co-founder and CEO Monte Lipman. “She’s a rare talent whose legacy continues to resonate throughout the world. We feel a tremendous amount of gratitude to support her new body of work, which is spectacular.”

Twain also spoke out about releasing new music on social media, and how much it has changed since her reign as one of country music’s biggest hitmakers in the ’90s.

“One big thing I love about releasing music now versus the 90s is that I get to see your reactions in real time… I’m so excited!!” she wrote.

It’s been five years since Twain had new music out, and no one was more eager than Twain to share it with the world.

“Every time I get to announce something like this I get such a rush of adrenaline and nerves,” Twain said (via iHeart Country). “It never gets old… I’ve spent the last couple years working away on new music… on my documentary… on the Vegas residency and it’s been such a creatively fulfilling time for me, I can’t wait for this next chapter and ‘Waking Up Dreaming’ is just the start.”

Twain’s Not Just a Girl documentary was recently released on Netflix, telling the entire story of Twain’s life and career. Twain will be inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame later this year, along with Steve WarinerHillary Lindsey, Gary Nicholson and David Malloy.

“I can only say that it’s a dream come true. I’m really honored to be among so many of my songwriting idols, and it just feels really good,” Twain said when the news was announced. “Thank you for accepting me into your community. I wish I could be there, but I’m actually writing right now, in Switzerland, and I’m trying to finish up my album, but I wanted to thank you, even though I can’t be there in person.”
