Steven Curtis Chapman Releases ‘That’s My Dad’ in Tribute to His Father

Steven Curtis Chapman is releasing a new song, “That’s My Dad,” in honor of his own father, Herb Chapman. It is Herb whom Steven credits with creating in him such a love for music, since Herb taught music for more than five decades, in his Chapman Music store in Paduchah, Kentucky, which still exists today.

“It seems only right that I would finally write a song for the man who gave me a love for music, taught me how to appreciate a ‘great song’ and was in fact the first songwriter I ever knew,” Steven said in a statement. “I’m very thankful for my dad and thankful I could share this song that he inspired on this Father’s Day weekend.”

Steven also just released a song, “Together (We’ll Get Through This),” about the struggles of life during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

“I’m always prone to process my whatever’s going on in the world and how it’s affecting me with a song,” Steven told Everything Nash. “The world’s going through devastation. I’m watching people, just seeing a look in their eyes of, ‘Am I ever going to survive this? Am I ever going to smile again and is the sun ever going to shine again?’ I know that feeling. And so when something connects deeply with me, I process it with a song. Obviously you couldn’t be breathing and have a pulse and not be deeply affected by what’s going on in the world, the last two months.”

In addition to the song “That’s My Dad,” Steven is also hosting a TV special of the same name, airing on TBN on Friday night, June 19. Steven will perform, and will also be joined by Tauren Wells and Jillian Edwards, The That’s My Dad TV special will air at four consecutive times, beginning at 8:00 PM ET on TBN. Steven is hitting the road next month with his good friends Michael W. Smith and Mac Powell for a Drive-In Theater Tour, which kicks off on July 16 in Watertown, Tennessee. Find dates and more information, and download or stream “That’s My Dad,” at StevenCurtisChapman.com.
