Tauren Wells has a new song with Jimmie Allen, out now. The Christian and country artists teamed up for a collaboration of “Up,” from Wells’ latest Joy in the Morning record, released in June. Wells also released another collaboration of the feel-good track, with Mary Mary’s Erica Campbell.
“Both of these collaborations mean so much to me,” Wells says (via Vents Magazine). “I was singing Mary Mary songs in church growing up, so now knowing Erica and being able to hear her voice on my song is surreal and a great honor. I met Jimmie in Nashville 10 years ago or so, back when we were both in our bands trying to figure out how to make it. Being on the other side of that journey now and seeing the country staple he’s become is something I genuinely celebrate and I can’t believe we get to work together all these years later.”
Wells performed “Up” recently on Good Morning America. The ten-time Grammy Awards nominee got his start by performing with iconic artists like Lionel Richie and Mariah Carey, before launching his own career as a solo artist.
“It was amazing,” Wells gushed to GMA of the experience. “Getting to watch both of them every night, icons in the industry, perform. Just incredible people.”
Joy in the Morning is Wells’ third studio album, and his first on Capitol CMG. The father of four wrote all ten songs on the record, with the singular goal of sharing his heart with the music.
“A lot of these songs came from a place of freedom and honesty — not to say that my other works have not been honest — they have been, but there was just something special about how this particular moment was captured in my life and what I hope to bring people,” Wells told Billboard when the project was released. “No matter what happens with the public reception of it, I’m so grateful to have been a part of this body of work.”
This isn’t the first time Wells and Allen have performed together on “When This Is Over,” Allen’s track on his Bettie James Gold Edition album, which featured the Oak Ridge Boys and also included Rita Wilson.
