The Bellamy Brothers will go down in history as one of the greatest country music acts of all time. Made up of Howard and David Bellamy, the duo has released hit after hit over the years, beginning with their iconic “Let Your Love Flow” single, out in 1976.They’ve also found success in other ventures.

“We’ve been fortunate our medical marijuana company has done very well,” David tells Everything Nash, speaking of their involvement in Trulieve, which began in 2020. When most artists were struggling financially because they couldn’t tour during COVID, the Bellamys developed a new income stream.

“Business is going really well,” he adds.

The Bellamy Brothers Look Ahead to More Music

Fortunately, after all these years, the Bellamy Brothers still have a passion for writing and recording new songs.

“I guess that’s all we’re good for is writing songs and telling old road stories,” David says with a chuckle. “If we like a song, we usually cut it now and don’t worry about where it falls. We were going to make a big old compilation album for the 50th year, one that had hits and a few live [songs] and some new songs. But we kept writing new songs, and ended up with several that we liked so we decided to do a brand new album.”

The new record, 50 Years On, features a beautiful duet with Janie Fricke titled “Windows Not Walls.”

“We’ve had a lot of luck with our peers that we grew up with in the business and respected so much. We worked with Janie a whole lot,” Howard says. “She’s such a great singer!”

Their new 50 Years On album also includes some of the clever humor the Bellamys have become known for on such tracks as “Your Grandma,” in which they address influencers “trying to reinvent sexy for this day and age.” They point out that grandma wore “really, really short miniskirts, bell bottoms and no bra, hot pants and Go Go boots” and that she drove a ’66 Mustang, “smoked thin cigarettes and rolled fat joints” and “I hate to break it to you baby, but your grandma was a whole lot cooler than you are.”

Over the years, the Bellamy Brothers earned such accolades as being named Kentucky Colonels and honorary Texas Rangers.

“We have a couple of keys to cities in New Zealand and Switzerland,” David notes.

So what’s still on their bucket list?

“They might as well put us in the Opry. We play there all the time,” Howard says with a grin. “We’re already talking about the next project. We are already planning on doing a couple of duets with some of our international friends. We’ve got a friend of ours from Brazil that we’re going to cut a track with and then we’re going to cut a track with Gola from Switzerland, a new one. We did a show with him in Interlaken this past year and it went really well.”

As they reflect on 50 years of making music and performing for audiences all over the globe, the Bellamy Brothers are grateful for the journey.

“Another fact that we are proud of is the fact that we are still together as brothers after 50 years,” Howard says. “I don’t know if that’s been done many times. There’s always a break-up or something or problems arise. Our parents pretty much imprinted us when we were younger to work things out. None of it is easy, but you just trudge along and work on it as you go. That’s something that I’m very proud of. Families have lost a lot of importance in this country and that’s what we were established on.”

The Bellamy Brothers will also be part of the 2027 Country Music Cruise, along with Clint Black, Wynonna Judd, Joe Nichols, Neal McCoy, Wade Hayes, Billy Dean, Darryl Worley, The Malpass Brothers, Jimmy Fortune, Rhonda Vincent, and more.
