‘This Is Us’ Star Chrissy Metz Announces Grand Ole Opry Debut

This Is Us star Chrissy Metz will soon make her Grand Ole Opry debut! The actress announced the news on social media, admitting she was having a hard time articulating how excited she was to play on the sacred stage.

“I can’t believe I’m going to be saying this out loud. Here goes: I’m gonna be making my Grand Ole Opry debut on July 25,” she gushed. “Excited really doesn’t even sum it up for me. I don’t even know the right words. It’s very surreal. It’s such a legacy at the Opry, and I can’t believe I get to play in the circle. I’m really, really excited.”

Chrissy just dropped a new song, “Actress,” from her upcoming debut album on EMI Records.

“I love a good break up song and I love the play on words,” Chrissy said in a statement of the song, which she wrote with Nicolette Hayford, Matt McGinn and Nathan Spicer. “Obviously, I’m an actress, but we have all had those experiences where we put on that brave face when our heart is just broken, we act as if nothing is wrong even though you’re dying inside — wanting something so desperately you don’t have anymore.”

“Actress” follows “Talking to God,”,” which was part of Chrissy’s introduction into country music — a genre she has always enjoyed.

“Country music for me has always been about the values of what the storytelling really is about, and it always really spoke to my soul and my spirit and my heart,” Chrissy previously explained. “You can cry to it, you can dance to it, you can have the best road trips to it. I just love me some country music. The artists that I really admire are beautiful storytellers that really speak from the heart and they just sing and tell stories about real life in their most authentic self.”

Chrissy will be joined on stage for her Opry debut by gospel singer CeCe Winans. The Grand Ole Opry is continuing shows without a live audience, due to COVID-19. They are currently selling tickets for shows in September. Find updates at Opry.com.
