Thomas Rhett Celebrates ‘Mind-Blowing’ 20th No. 1 Hit With ‘Half of Me’

Thomas Rhett  has a lot to celebrate — 20 reasons in fact. The 32-year-old just celebrated his 20th No. 1 hit — in a decade — with “Half of Me,” his collaboration with Riley Green.

“20 number ones in ten years is mind-blowing,” Rhett says of the accomplishment. “The support since 2012 by radio, songwriters, my team and all the fans has been incredible. This is insane and I’m so grateful for this wild ride! I can’t wait to see what the next decade has in store.”

Rhett also spoke out about the achievement on social media, sharing a video montage of all 20 of his chart-topping singles, beginning with “It Goes Like This,” the title track of his freshman album.

“This milestone occurring on a week of gratitude couldn’t be more fitting,” Rhett writes. “There’s so much to be thankful for this year. I’m just absolutely humbled and floored. And I have a feeling the next decade is going to be even better.”

Rhett and his father, Rhett Akins, wrote “Half of Me” with Josh Thompson and Will Bundy. The song came together quickly, after Rhett asked Thompson if he wanted to go work out with him, and Thompson said that half of him wanted a cold beer, and the other half did too.

“I remember I was like, ‘We have to go write that right now,’” Rhett recalled. “So we went on the bus, and we literally sat there for 35 minutes, and this song fell out. And when we went into the studio to record it, I was like, ‘This song is so cool. I love it. Who could we get on here to feature?’ And Riley Green and I have become really good buddies over the last few years.

“I remember sending him that song, and I had forgotten that I had played it for him like a year previous, and we never talked about it again,’ he adds. “I said, ‘Man, would you feature on this?’ and he was like, ‘Absolutely.’

Although Rhett instantly loved “Half of Me” when he wrote it, he never imagined that the song, from his Where We Started  album, would become his 20th No. 1 hit.

“It is nuts,” Rhett shared with his record label. “This is one of the simplest songs about beer that I think has ever existed, and I got to write this song with my dad, which is always really special. And getting to share this No. 1 single with Riley Green is awesome, because ‘Half of Me’ is my 20th No. 1 single as an artist. It’s pretty quick, you know? I’m 32 years old. I feel so blessed to just have accomplished what we’ve gotten to do in the last ten years, which is absolutely insane.”

Rhett will spend part of 2023 on his Home Team Tour, with Cole Swindell and Nate Smith serving as his opening acts. The tour, which will hit 40 cities in 27 states, will kick off on May 4 in Des Moines, Iowa, and wrap up on September 29 at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena. Find music and tour dates at ThomasRhett.com.
