Tim McGraw on Doing More Acting: ‘It’s Not Like I’m Tom Hanks’

Tim McGraw has been in several movies over the years, including The Blind Side, Friday Night Lights, The Shack and others. While he’d like to do more, the 53-year-old is waiting for the right project, and the ability to be cast for the role.

“There’ve been a few things that I looked at that have been interesting, but I’ve been so focused on making this record, I didn’t feel like I had time so, I’ve passed on just about everything,” Tim shared with BMLG. “There was one TV series that about a year or two ago we worked hard on, and it was a really good story, a book that I’d read and wanted to try to go make a series out of, and got it all to the table and done but we couldn’t get the script right. I didn’t want to do it without getting the script right, so I backed off on that.

“For me, it’s just a matter of having time, and especially a movie,’ he continued.  “It’s not like I’m Tom Hanks and I can go pick any movie that I want and go do it. A series of things has to happen for me to be able to do a movie. First off, it has to be something I really, really like, and then they gotta want me for that part, and then it’s gotta fall into a time period that I’m able to do it. It’s hard for those three things to happen at the same time.”

Tim’s new record, Here on Earth, will be released on August 21, and features 16 songs, including “I Called Mama,” as well as the title track.

“First off, it’s the title track to the album because it says everything that I wanted to say with the scope of the album,” Tim explained. “It says it within that song in particular. It sort of goes through the stages of life. And what the song’s talking about is your love for your family is why you’re here. That’s what the song said to me.

“I always like the third song on the album to sort of have a feel that draws you in,” he continued. “After you’ve listened to the first and second song, when you get to the third song you want something that sort of keeps everybody interested, and I think that that song does that. I hope it does that, anyway.”
