Alexandra Kay Releases Breakup Anthem, ‘Skip This Part’ [LISTEN]

“Skip This Part” by Alexandra Kay is out! The singer-songwriter dropped her latest song, which she says includes “the most Taylor Swift inspired bridge” she has ever written. The song quickly shot up into the Top 5 on the iTunes chart as soon as it was released.

Kay, who says “Skip This Part” is one of her favorite songs, has been churning out music over the last several months, including “I Kinda Don’t” and “That’s What Love Is,” the latter which was written for her wedding to her husband, Indiana Touchette.

“My now-husband and I were together for eight years prior to getting married,” Kay explained on TikTok of the inspiration behind the romantic song. “When I started to think about songs that I wanted to dance to at our wedding, I couldn’t find anything that really summed up everything that we went through in those eight years, in order to get us to this moment of saying ‘I do.’ So I wrote one.”

Kay draws inspiration from a lot of different artists, including Billie Eilish, but her heart belongs in country music. In fact, Kay recently posted a photo of herself on social media, standing outside the artist’s entrance of the Grand Ole Opry, hinting that she would soon perform on the revered stage.

“Thank you for letting me sing backstage for you yesterday, Grand Ole Opry, ” Kay captioned the photo. “I can’t wait for the day I get to step into that circle!”

Kay spent part of 2022 opening for Tim McGraw, taking notes every night about how the country music superstar conducted himself, on and off stage.

“I feel so blessed to have had this opportunity,’ an emotional Kay says in a video posted on YouTube. “I’ve worked so hard over the years, and there were so many parts of me that thought that I’d never get here. I’ve gotten a life’s worth of lessons in the last two months.”
