Ashley McBryde and Carly Pearce Will Celebrate Their Grammy ‘Like Little Girls’

Although it’s been several weeks since Ashley McBryde and Carly Pearce won a Grammy Award (for Best Country Duo/Group collaboration, for their “Never Wanted To Be That Girl” duet), McBryde doesn’t actually have the trophy in her possession yet. But when it does arrive, she isn’t sure exactly where she will put it, but she does say it will be separate from the unlikely place where she keeps most of her other trophies.

“Usually when you win something at an event, it’s like three or four months before that thing comes to you, because there’s all sorts of engraving done and everything,” McBryde tells Taste of Country. “I joke about my awards being in the guest bathroom so everyone has to look at them, because everyone has to at least wash their hands. Well, there’s not enough room in the bathroom anymore, which is a cool place to be in.

“Also, a Grammy gets its own place,” she adds. “My becoming a member of the Grand Ole Opry trophy and my Grammy will get their own space.”

One thing McBryde does know: when the Grammy trophies do arrive, she and Pearce have already planned how they will celebrate the huge industry honor.

“What I know for sure is — Carly and I agreed to it the night we won — that when our Grammys come in we’re going to have a tea party, just like little girls,” McBryde reveals. “We’re going to set them and our awards from ‘Never Wanted to Be That Girl’ around and we’re going to drink tea, or whatever it is, from a teacup and just have a tea party.”

Not only did McBryde and Pearce win a Grammy Award for their collaboration, but they also made history as well. Their win marks the first time two female artists have won in the category. It’s a fitting accolade for a duet that McBryde admits she was hesitant to be a part of at first, because of the touchy subject matter.

“I was like, ‘This is a little soon, and this is a little close to home for you, and if we’re being honest, it’s a little close to home for me,” McBryde previously told People. “And she said, ‘I think we should do it.’”

McBryde just released “Light On In The Kitchen,” the debut single from a forthcoming new album, which will be accompanied by a tour later this year as well.

“We’ve got a really big tour in the fall to support the new record.,” McBryde reveals. “Right now I’ve been writing my tail end off and that makes me so happy. People are like, ‘Are you writing for a new record?’ and I’m like, ‘Honey, I’m always writing for a new record and not always my new record.'”

McBryde will also join Jelly Roll for part of his Backroad Baptism Tour. Find all of McBryde’s music and upcoming shows at AshleyMcBryde.com.
