Blake Shelton on Relationship With Gwen Stefani: ‘I Learn Something From Her Every Day’

Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani just announced another duet together, “Happy Anywhere.” The couple who has been together almost five years, is stronger than ever, which Blake attributes at least in part to who Gwen is as a person.

“An Okie boy and a California girl look on paper like an unlikely match, but what matters is she’s a great human being,” Blake boasted to People. “She is the most understanding, kind-hearted person I’ve ever met and I learn something from her every day.”

Blake is releasing “Happy Anywhere” after the success of the pair’s multi-week, platinum-selling No. 1 hit, “Nobody But You,” but Blake says that “Happy Anywhere,” although especially timely during the coronavirus pandemic, was actually recorded first.

“‘Nobody But You’ was a big song for us, but we actually recorded ‘Happy Anywhere’ before that. We were waiting for the right time to release it, and I knew that time was now,” Blake shared. “We’re all still socially distancing, so there’s no better time to be happy anywhere with the person or people you love. It doesn’t matter where in the world you are — as long as you’re with them, you’re happy.”

Blake and Gwen have been spending time on his Oklahoma ranch while quarantining together, where they are soaking up the unexpected time off the road.

“The simple pleasure of being together in one place for an extended period of time has been a real gift,” Blake said. “We cook, we clean, we ride four-wheelers and we just enjoy being with each other and with family.”

Blake and Gwen will both return for the upcoming Season 19 of The Voice, along with John Legend and Kelly Clarkson.

“There’s nothing like the in-person camaraderie with the other coaches, and it’s more fun to give them crap in that live setting,” Blake said of the reality TV talent show. “You make a lot of friends on set, and I’m looking forward to getting back to that big extended family.”

“Happy Anywhere” will be released on Friday, July 24. No word yet if the song will appear on an upcoming album.
