Cody Johnson Reacts to 3 ACM Awards Nominations

Cody Johnson has three ACM Awards nominations! The Texan is nominated for Single of the Year, Song of the Year and Visual Media of the Year, all for his monster hit, “‘Til You Can’t.”

“What a great way to start a morning!” Johnson says. “We are back on tour this weekend and I’m happy to be with my band and team who helped propel this song to such success. Thank you COJONation fans and country radio for embracing this song. And a big congrats to songwriters Ben Stennis and Matt Rogers. I will never be more in awe of the power of a great country song!”

Johnson, who also spoke out about the honor on social media, currently has a top 15 hit, with “Human.” Both songs are from his Human: The Double Album, out in 2021. Fortunately, the 35-year-old is hard at work on a new record, which includes a duet with  Carrie Underwood.

“I actually just recorded a duet with her yesterday for my new album coming out,” Johnson revealed to CMT’s Cody Alan, while at the CMT Music Awards. “And getting to know her — man, she’s such a pro and everybody that she surrounds herself with are all very professional, as well. So I don’t mean this to sound bad, but it’s kind of hard to compete with that.”

“‘Til You Can’t” became Johnson’s first No. 1, platinum-selling single, and also earned him two CMA Awards, for both  Music Video of the Year and Single of the Year. It’s those accolades that are now inspiring Johnson to work harder than ever on his next set of tunes.

“In the back of your mind, you think about it,” Johnson told Taste of Country. “Because it’s no different than a bronc rider who goes out and gets 90 points. Well, he wants to do 90 points every night. But you’re not gonna be able to do 90 points every single night. There’s too many variables. And the music business is the same way.”

Garth Brooks and Dolly Parton will host the ACM Awards ceremony. The 2023 ACM Awards will take place on Thursday, May 11 at 8:00 PM ET, streaming live on Amazon Prime Video, from Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas. A limited number of tickets are available to enjoy the ceremony in person, at SeatGeek.com.
