Lauren Alaina Details ‘Very Different’ Upcoming Country Album

Lauren Alaina is very, very excited about her forthcoming new album, her first on Big Loud Records. The American Idol alum announced last year that she had left her longtime label, Mercury Records, later revealing she had signed with Big Loud instead. Now, Alaina is eager to share her new project with her fans, one she says is “a whole lot more country” than anything she has released in the past.

“I’m always really proud of my music and I always feel like I say the new project’s the best project, but this one’s just really different and refreshing, and feels like it represents me as a woman and a new sound just in general,” Alaina reveals (via Country Now). “I’ve always kind of leaned a little bit [to] power pop country and this, it’s very different.”

By her own admission, Alaina finds the sound of her new record “hard to explain,” but she does hint at what at least some of the songs will sound like.

“The ballads are more acoustic-driven,” shares the singer. “It’s just different. But you know what? It feels like my hometown, it feels like where I came from. I don’t ever feel like I got away from myself because I’m pretty comfortable in who I am and I’ve always kind of ran after that and tried to be the best version of myself.”

Alaina hopes to get approval from her fans when she releases new music, produced this time by veteran producer, Joey Moi, but she already has a feeling those closest to her will love it.

“I feel like I’m recording and writing music now that my big brother’s going to be like, ‘Sis, that’s really cool,’” Alaina says. “It just feels like it represents where I come from more. It’s a little more indicative of the girl from Rossville, Georgia in some ways. I’m excited. I’m really proud. Joey is a master.”

The Grand Ole Opry member previously said her new album would be a lot more country than anything she has released in the past.

“It’s definitely very country. Very, ” Alaina told Everything Nash last fall. “I would say that it really represents my personality well. I’ve just been writing for it and preparing and listening.”

Alaina also said that she would write some, but maybe not all, of the songs on her next project.

“I’m doing a little bit of both,” Alaina revealed. “I think I’m at the point where I don’t have to write every song I put out. I’m writing a lot of them, but I just want the best album I can possibly make. And if that means I don’t write a single song on it, so be it. I just wanna put out the best album I’ve ever made.”
