Michael Ray has another new song, out now. The country music hitmaker just released “Nothin’ Else,” a song he first teased in January.
“I couldn’t be more excited to finally share that ‘Nothin’ Else’ is OUT NOW!!!” Ray shares on social media. “Y’all have shown this one so much love already that we had no choice but to put it out into the world. I hope you connect to it like I have and make it a part of your lives!!!”
“Nothin’ Else” isn’t on Ray’s latest Dive Bars & Broken Hearts EP, released last June, indicating that Ray might be keeping his word to release more music.
“We’re talking about going in soon to start the next side,” Ray hinted to Everything Nash last summer, shortly after Dive Bars & Broken Hearts was released. “I’m writing, and listening to a lot of songs, getting set up to get in the studio as soon as we can, and not let much time slip by. We want to try to keep things close together. I’m excited.”
It’s Dive Bars & Broken Hearts that has Ray more eager than ever to release more music, finding himself in all six of the songs on his last project.
“I think it is the first album where it’s 100 percent me,” Ray told Everything Nash. “I didn’t chase anything. I wasn’t trying to do anything but really be very focused on songs that I wrote, and songs that I got sent that I loved. I knew what I wanted to say. I knew how I wanted the record to be; everything I already had in my mind. And so, because of that, I think that’s why people are gonna hear a difference sonically. They’re hearing a difference vocally. They’re hearing a difference in a lot of ways.”
The Florida native currently has a Top 40 hit at radio with “Spirits and Demons,” a duet with Meghan Patrick, from Dive Bars & Broken Hearts.
“The song’s about going through that part of life where you’re trying to figure things out,” Ray said of “Spirits and Demons.” “You went through a break-up, and you go to the bottle. You wanna numb it. You wanna forget about what’s going on and just not feel anything, but when you lean into that bottle, it’s going to bring out the demons, it’s going to bring out some of those memories and you just end up reliving it.”
