Old Dominion’s Matt Ramsey Suffers Collapsed Lung, Broken Rib in Fall

Old Dominion‘s Matt Ramsey is on the mend after suffering some serious injuries from falling off a ladder. Ramsey shared a photo of himself recovering in the hospital, along with a cautionary tale of how his injuries could have been prevented.

“How many OD members does it take to change a lightbulb?” Ramsey tweeted. “Well, after a broken rib, collapsed lung, and various scrapes & bruises, I found out the answer is ‘More than one.’ Back home and recovering now with all the fun pills. Be careful out there & get someone to hold [your] ladder.”

No word yet if this will impact Old Dominion’s tour plans. The five-man group had planned on resuming life on the road later this month, on their An Evening With Old Dominion: The Band Behind the Curtain Tour.

“We’ve been the band that plays the little side stage or whatever, and it’s hard to wrap your head around the fact that no, you are headlining the show and these people are coming to see you,” Ramsey said (via The Country Daily). “So every show is still a surprise to me, and the guys actually make fun of me sometimes because I’m always like, ‘Is there anyone here?’ and they’re like, ‘Yes, man, there’s going to be a lot of people here’ [laughs]. But we still have that sense that we want to prove ourselves to them, and we want to make them come back and we want to make them feel like they get what they paid for, or more than they paid for.”

Old Dominion is the reigning ACM Vocal Group of the Year, beating out  Lady A, Little Big Town, The Cadillac Three and The Highwomen to take home the trophy.

“Thank you. If we look surprised, it’s because obviously everyone in this category, especially this year — really, really, it could be anyone’s,” Ramsey said at the time. “We’re just really fortunate to be standing here this year. It’s a crazy year. A lot of silver linings that we have all searched for … Thank you guys, for being amazing groups that inspire us constantly. Now here we are, among such bada**es. Thank you guys for including us in that category.”

Updates to Old Dominion’s touring schedule will be posted on their website as available.
