Scotty McCreery Says Being a Grand Ole Opry Member Is His Biggest Goal

Scotty McCreery has already seen plenty of his dreams come true, but he’s still holding out for one big one. The American Idol alum hopes to one day become a member of the Grand Ole Opry, a dream that seems certain to someday — hopefully soon — come to fruition.

“Being an Opry member, that’s definitely at the top of my list as far as goals,” McCreery tells Music Mayhem. “So if you love country music and tradition, the Grand Ole Opry is right there in the middle of that. It would be a great honor. It’s on the dream board.”

This isn’t the first time McCreery has spoken out about his love of the Opry. He has been vocal about his appreciation for the Grand Ole Opry, and the legacy it carries.

“I think everybody knows for me, I grew up on traditional country, and I love where country is at currently,” McCreery previously said. “I will always love the genre. I’ll always love the storytelling aspect of country music. And I think the Opry has done a great job of carrying on that classic traditional country, while also embracing what’s going on currently in the format as well. I think they’ve struck a great balance there, and I think the Opry will always be very important to country music.”

McCreery is heading out on his Damn Strait Tour on January 20, where he will be joined by his wife, Gabi, and son, Avery.

“We’re gonna bring out a baby bus, so we’ll get him out there,” McCreery told Everything Nash. “Gabi will be out there a lot with me too, so he’ll have his own little crib and everything. It’ll be a completely different way to do the road for me. I’ve been doing it now over ten years. I’ve got my system, so this is gonna throw that for a loop, but I can’t wait.”

Avery, born in October, might only be a couple of months old, but McCreery already has high praise for Gabi and her parenting skills, which will likely influence the songs on his next album.

“I thought I loved her a lot before. She’s the mother of my son, and now I’m finding that I love her even more,” McCreery told Music Mayhem. “She’s a champ. She’s working so hard and doing so great as a mom already. So, I’ll be writing for sure a lot of songs about her and definitely tying the kiddo into some songs. Maybe writing for him too. I think it’s all great things right now. We’re in a great season.”

McCreery might be heading out on his Damn Strait Tour, but he is still finding time to play the Grand Ole Opry. He is slated to perform at the Opry on February 14 and March 9. McCreery’s current single, “It Matters To Her,” is in the Top 30. Find music and tour dates at  ScottyMcCreery.com.
