Scotty McCreery‘s Same Truck: The Deluxe Album came out in November, but he is already hard at work on new music. The 29-year-old is writing songs for his next project, songs that are largely inspired by his wife, Gabi, and how well she has adapted to her new role as a mother, after the couple welcomed their son, Avery, into the world in October.
“I thought I loved her a lot before. She’s the mother of my son, and now I’m finding that I love her even more,” McCreery tells Music Mayhem. “She’s a champ. She’s working so hard and doing so great as a mom already. So, I’ll be writing for sure a lot of songs about her and definitely tying the kiddo into some songs. Maybe writing for him too. I think it’s all great things right now. We’re in a great season.”
McCreery doesn’t know when his next set of tunes will be available, but he is gathering songs for the new album.
“I’m in the writing process. We have not recorded anything yet,” McCreery reveals. “We’re making decisions on what songs will make it, but we’re in that creative time, which is always a fun time to be in. So I’m writing a lot of different songs I’ve [never] written before, when it comes to where I’m at in life right now. It’s exciting.”
The American Idol alum, who will be juggling working on an album with a busy touring schedule, hopes to have it out in the latter part of 2023.
“It will take some time,” McCreery maintains. “But we’re starting that process. So I can’t wait.”
McCreery’s next record will have songs about Gabi on it, but there might also be a song or two about Avery as well.
“I’ve written a lot of life songs,” says the singer. “I have never written a baby song before. So that’ll be a first. It’ll be exciting,”
McCreery will head out on his Damn Strait Tour on January 20, where he will be joined by Gabi and Avery on the road.
“We’re gonna bring out a baby bus, so we’ll get him out there,” McCreery tells Everything Nash. “Gabi will be out there a lot with me too, so he’ll have his own little crib and everything. It’ll be a completely different way to do the road for me. I’ve been doing it now over ten years. I’ve got my system, so this is gonna throw that for a loop, but I can’t wait. It’s gonna be awesome.”
