Scotty McCreery on Being Invited to Join the Grand Ole Opry: ‘Still Doesn’t Feel Real’

Scotty McCreery is still processing his invitation to become the next member of the Grand Ole Opry. The North Carolina native, who was invited to join on Sunday, December 3, while he was performing as part of Opry Country Christmas, shared his thoughts on social media, one day after the invitation was issued by Garth Brooks.

“Last night was one of the greatest nights of my life,” McCreery said. “I wish I could tell that 10-year-old boy singing ‘The Dance’ on the edge of his bed at 2 in the morning, that one day Garth Brooks would invite him to become a member of the Grand Ole Opry! Still doesn’t feel real. Thank you Grand Ole Opry for the honor of a lifetime. Proud to be a part of the family.”

In a separate post, the  30-year-old shared the moment Brooks invited him to become a Grand Ole Opry member.

“I have not stopped smiling since last night,” McCreery said. “Thank you Grand Ole Opry and Garth Brooks!!! Thank you to all who have believed in me and my music, who’ve come out to the shows, called the radio stations, streamed and bought my music….this would not have happened without all of you!!”

McCreery acknowledged Brooks, and the influence the Country Music Hall of Fame member, had on his own career, when accepting the invitation to become the next Opry member.

“I grew up listening to your records,  and you’re what got me wanting to do this for a living, and I didn’t think that dream would ever become a reality,” McCreery said. “But it is because of all of y’all sitting in this house tonight, so thank you very much. I could talk for hours. How long do we have tonight? When I got started doing this, people said, ‘What’s your goals?’ and I said, ‘One day I’d like to be a member of the Grand Ole Opry.'”

McCreery has a Top 25 hit with his latest single, “Cab In A Solo.” He also recently released the Christmas song,  “Feel Like the Holidays.” McCreery will kick off his Cab  In A Solo Tour on January 26 in Troy, Ohio. Find all of McCreery’s music and upcoming shows at ScottyMcCreery.com.
