The Oak Ridge Boys’ Joe Bonsall Gives Update After Health Scare

The Oak Ridge Boys‘ Joe Bonsall is giving an update on his health, after he was replaced for some shows by Rudy Gatlin. Bonsall initially shared the news on June 17 that he was having some health issues, which he now says was because of a pulmonary embolism that left him hospitalized.

“I could have easily died last weekend but God is not through with me yet … I am home now after 6 days in the hospital battling pulmonary embolisms,” Bonsall writes. “My recovery could take awhile … thanks for the prayers and love shown!! I am on the better side now… GOD IS ABLE! Love you ALL”

The Oak Ridge Boys shared Bonsall’s post, writing, “We are all thankful that Joe is on the mend and doing well … each day gets better from here … God is GREAT!!!”

The Oak Ridge Boys will once again be part of the 2023 Country Music Cruise, which Bonsall says is one of his favorite events each year.

“It’s the music,” Joe Bonsall previously told Everything Nash. “If you love country music, and if you love performances, what a bonus to be on the ship on the ocean, and stopping at a few beautiful islands along the way. And nobody ever starves to death on a cruise ship. On the Country Music Cruise, you can eat from the time you get up in the morning until the time you go to bed at night, if you want to. The food is excellent, the rooms are excellent. The view of the ocean going by is just fabulous. But it’s the music.”

Other artists appearing on the 2023 Country Music Cruise include Clay WalkerRandy OwenJohn Berry, Neal McCoyMark Chesnutt, Pam Tillis, Mark Chesnutt, and many more.  Both the Elvis Tribute Artists and a very special Grand Ole Opry at Sea will also occur. The cruise will leave Ft. Lauderdale on the Nieuw Amsterdam on Sunday, January 22, and make stops in St. Maarten and San Juan before returning on January 29.
