Thomas Rhett Is Keeping His Next Album a Secret

Thomas Rhett has more music coming soon, but he isn’t willing to share many details about it, at least not yet. The father of four, whose Where We Started album was released in 2022, says he has a new set of tunes almost ready to go, but most people, even those he works closely with, have yet to hear it.

“I’ve written so much music over the last couple of years, and it’s the most in the dark most people on my team are about it,” Rhett tells Audacy‘s Katie & Company. “I think over the years I’ve gotten so many opinions about songs that I was talked out of a few, and this one, I kind of just wanna get to it and be like, ‘Okay, I put my stamp on all of these, now give me your opinions.'”

Rhett has not only written several of his own hits, but he’s written songs for other artists as well, although he now admits some of them he wishes he would have kept for himself instead.

“My very first No. 1 I ever had before I even had one of my own was a song I wrote for Florida Georgia Line called ‘Round Here,'” Rhett recalls. “And my wife was pretty ticked about that one. She loved that song. But I’m also sitting there going, ‘Hey, I would love to buy a house. And they’re hot right now, they’re having a lot of hits.’ And so letting that one go was hard.”

The Georgia native also wrote Cole Swindell‘s recent mega-hit,  “She Had Me At Heads Carolina,” an ode to Jo Dee Messina‘s “Heads Carolina, Tails California,” and “Some People Do,” a song he wrote with Matt Ramsey that became a big hit for Old Dominion . But Rhett isn’t lacking hits on his own, either. He’s celebrating his own latest chart-topping single, with “Angels,” a song he wrote about his wife, Lauren Akins.

“Lauren’s been through the wringer with me in the van days, the bus days, and now today’s days, and she’s always taken my life as a champ,” Rhett tells Southern Living. “I say this a lot before I play the song live, but I look at Lauren sometimes and I do truly wonder every now and then if her body is completely just taken over by an angel, because it takes a lot of patience to be married to somebody like me.”

Rhett’s Home Team Tour wraps up with two back-to-back shows at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena this weekend. His 20 Number Ones album, celebrating all of his chart-topping singles to date, will be out on September 29. Find music and tour dates at ThomasRhett.com.
