Thomas Rhett and Katy Perry Release ‘Where We Started’ Video [WATCH]

It’s here! The long-awaited video for Thomas Rhett‘s “Where We Started” duet with Katy Perry is out now. The ethereal video, directed by Patrick Tracy, shows both artists reflecting on their own unique journeys, before coming together in the end.

“Working with Katy has been a really collaborative process,” Rhett shares. “From tracking the song in the studio, to performing it on American Idol, to this video – her input has made this whole experience really special for me.”

“I loved being able to create a dreamy world for ‘Where We Started,’ going back to the Nashville singer-songwriter roots of where I started,” Perry adds.

“Where We Started” is the title track of Rhett’s sixth studio album. Rhett wrote the song with  Jon Bellion, Jesse Frasure and Ashley Gorley, never imagining Perry would agree to join him on on the track.

“I don’t know how this happened, but having a Katy Perry feature on this was mind-blowing to me,” Rhett shared with Everything Nash and other outlets during a virtual media event. “Allison Jones at the label sent it to her, and she immediately was like, ‘When do I put my vocal on it?’ And I’m sitting there going, ‘Really?’ I think my mind was just kind of blown. I’ve always been such a fan of hers, and to have her on here I think really escalated the emotion of that track. It’s a song that I think a lot of people are going to relate to, and a lot of people are really going to enjoy.”

A fan and now a friend, the father of four still can’t believe one of pop music’s biggest stars agreed to sing with him on “Where We Started,” and fi;m a video.

“Literally within 24 hours. Katy responded and said, ‘I love this. I resonate with this so well,’” Rhett remembers. “And when she put her vocal on, it took her like two weeks. She really put a lot of time and effort into this vocal, and it’s one of the best. I mean, she’s an incredible singer, but this kind of reminded me of how amazing of a vocalist she is. I just felt like it really came to life.”
