Tim McGraw Dedicates Performance of ‘I Called Mama’ to Frontline Workers on ‘The Tonight Show’

Tim McGraw performed his newest single, “I Called Mama” while appearing remotely on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The father of three dedicated the song to those working on the frontline during the coronavirus pandemic.

“I wanna just say thank you, from myself and my family, to all the frontline workers, all the public-facing workers, who are doing so much to keep the heartbeat of this country going. We appreciate you, we love you and thank you so much.”

“I Called Mama” is from Tim’s upcoming new album, and honors one of the most important people in his life, his mother Betty D’Agostino.

“This song really tells a story, and it is a story we can all wrap ourselves up in no matter who we are or what’s going on in our life,” Tim said of the tender tune. “I hope this song can give you a moment of clarity or comfort, or just a smile.”

Tim recently spoke out about the disappointment for seniors who are graduating without an official ceremony, due to COVID-19, including his daughters Maggie and Audrey.

“I can personally relate to the situation you’re in, as we have two daughters graduating this year; one from high school, one from college,” Tim said on iHeartRadio‘s Commencement: Speeches for the Class of 2020 podcast. “Our family joined you in the disappointment of not being able to share this moment in person as a collective event.

“We are all witnesses to your accomplishment,” he added, “to this important marker of time in your life, even though it looks different than we all imagined. Life is often different than we imagined.”

Tim and his wife, Faith Hill, will join several other celebrities, including Kenny Chesney, Carly Pearce, Dustin Lynch, Cassadee Pope and more, for CMT’s televised special, Feed The Front Line LIVE, Presented By CMT. The show, which airs on Wednesday night, May 20, will benefit Feed the Front Line, a nonprofit that works to support healthcare workers and others on the frontline, along with local restaurants. The Nashville chapter was started by their daughter, Maggie. More information can be found at CMT.com.
