Trace Adkins and Melissa Etheridge combined their talents for one stellar performance for the season finale of Monarch. The two sing “Love Walks Through The Rain,” which originally appeared on Adkins’ 25-track The Way I Wanna Go album, out last year. The video for the song, which shows scenes from Monarch, debuted on Tuesday, December 6, in New York City’s Times Square.
“I am honored that the great Melissa Etheridge, one of the most recognizable voices in any genre of music, agreed to perform this song with me,” Adkins says. “Many thanks to my friends at CMT for the continued support throughout the years and debuting the video for ‘Love Walks Through The Rain’ in Times Square!”
“When Trace asked me to join him on his 25th anniversary album, I knew I had to say yes,” adds Etheridge. “‘Love Walks Through The Rain’ was a really awesome project both to film and record and I can’t wait for everyone to see the finished product.”
Adkins previously praised Etheridge for her powerful contribution to “Love Walks Through The Rain,” which was written by Mickey Jack Cones, Marla Cannon-Goodman and Kelly Archer.
“I’ve done very few duets in my career with female vocals, because it’s hard to find a female vocal that blends with my voice, because my voice is so low,” Adkins told Everything Nash “But her voice is perfect. It’s the first female vocalist that I’ve ever worked with, and I thought that she blends so well with me. I couldn’t have dreamed that it would have come out any better than that. It was perfect.”
Adkins also stars in Monarch, as Albie Roman, one-half of country music’s most powerful couple, along with Dottie Roman, played by Susan Sarandon.
“He’s a no-nonsense kind of guy, and I’m kind of that way too,” Adkins tells Fox News. “He’s not very animated, and neither am I. We say what we’ve gotta say, and don’t have to yell it … just kind of move through this life as softly and peacefully as they’ll allow us to, but when they don’t – we’ll do what we’ve gotta do.”
For Adkins, one of his favorite parts about being on Monarch is all of the musical guests that are part of the TV drama, including Martina McBride, Shania Twain, Little Big Town and Tanya Tucker.
“It’s a lot of fun to be on this show and have all the musical guests come in,” Adkins acknowledges. “That’s a real treat for me,”
