Kay has been teasing the song and performing it on her Backroad Therapy Tour. The Illinois native spent time off of the road in the beginning of 2023, to put the finishing touches on the new project. She previously released  “Skip This Part” and “Backroad Therapy.”

“Those were the first two singles off my record that’s coming out at the beginning of the year,” Kay told Music Mayhem at the end of 2022. “I am not gonna release any release dates or anything else on that. … It’ll be titled Backroad Therapy, and I’m just really excited for the world to get a full project from me.”

As with everything she does, Kay had her fans in mind when she was picking all of the songs for her new album.

“It’s a product of the last year, but I definitely still have a few more songs before it’s done, and I just wanna make sure it’s perfect,” Kay said. “It’s my first full-length project, and I wanna make sure that I give my fans something that they listen to and they know it’s me as soon as it starts spinning. And so I just want them to be as proud of it as I will be.”

The singer-songwriter, who made her Grand Ole Opry debut last year, has also been celebrating streaming milestones, achievements that are often unheard of for independent artists. “Backroad Therapy just hit six million streams, while both “How Do We Go” and “Best Worst Ex” had ten million streams.

“I remember so vividly the days when I would walk in to clubs and restaurants ready to play a 4 hour show.. having driven 5 hours to the venue..and I only sold 6 tickets,” Kay said in a heartfelt Facebook post late last year. “I’m telling you this because as we set out on the Backroad Therapy Tour…I admit that young, anxious girl was still living inside of me.. scared no one would show up. … Every night we would huddle up, thank the Lord for another day of doing what we love for a living.”
