Chris Stapleton Talks ‘Very Cool’ 3 Grammy Nominations

Chris Stapleton is heading into this weekend’s Grammy Awards with an impressive eight wins already to his credit, and is nominated for three more trophies. Stapleton is nominated for both Best Country Song and Best Country Solo Performance for his recent No. 1 hit, “White Horse,” and Best Country Duo/Group Performance for his “We Don’t Fight Anymore” collaboration with Carly Pearce.

For Stapleton, being part of the Grammy ceremony again, with or without a win, already feels like a massive success.

“It’s such a convergence of different aspects of music,” Stapleton told his record label. “It’s just like a big melting pot of stuff that is just so fantastic to watch people interact that you don’t get that anywhere else, really. The Grammys are great to see that and you always see some cool collaboration or something that’s going on at the Grammys that it’s not going on anywhere else. I think it’s a real honor to be nominated for Grammys, and I think it’s very cool.”

“White Horse,” from Stapleton’s latest Higher album, was originally written to be part of a movie, before it became a hit for him instead.

“The song, ‘White Horse,’ really came about when I was in Los Angeles, writing with my friend, Dan Wilson,” Stapleton told Audacy. “I showed up at his house, and we were gonna write songs. He’s like, ‘Hey, they’re looking for songs for this new Lone Ranger movie.’ I was like, ‘Cool. What do you know about it? What do they need?’ [He said], ‘Well I don’t really know, but we know that the Lone Ranger has a white horse.

“That was the working title from that point,” he continued. “We started just kind of riffing around and bouncing things off of each other musically until we came up with what felt like something that would fit in a Western movie in kind of a rock and roll way. It never got used for that movie, but it turned out to be a really cool song in my opinion.”

Stapleton just dropped a brand-new single, “Think I’m In Love With You.” The song, written solely by Stapleton, was inspired by his relationship with his wife, Morgane.

“When we were recording ‘Think I’m In Love With You,’ we were making sure that we were all playing as quietly as possible, and I think that really informs the song,” Stapleton said.

Stapleton will continue headlining All-American Road Show Tour this year, and will also once again serve as the opening act for George Strait on another run of stadium shows.. Find all of his music and upcoming shows at ChrisStapleton.com.
