Dolly Parton on Not Staying On a Diet: ‘I Never Met a Spud I Didn’t Like’

Dolly Parton might be small, but she still loves to eat! The 74-year-old reveals what her biggest weakness is when it comes to healthy eating, which she blames for not being able to stay on any diet for very long.

“Every diet I ever fell off of has been because of a potato,” Dolly revealed to Wired. “Either French fries, or mashed potatoes, or baked potatoes. Potato, potato, potato! I never met a spud I didn’t like.”

Dolly also knows how to cook a potato, and almost anything else as well.

“I’m a really, really good cook,” the Country Music Hall of Fame member boasted. “I’m not a gourmet cook. My food is not pretty, but it’s good. I cook like my mom, my grandmas and my aunts. I’m still one of those people that really can cook, like the old days. That soul food cooking. That’s the kind I like best. I can’t eat it all the time anymore, because it does have a lot of calories in it. But yes, I love to cook. And yes, I can cook.”

Dolly recently opened up about her 54-year marriage to her husband, Carl Dean. Although he prefers to stay out of the spotlight, Dolly insists their relationship is stronger than ever.

“My husband and I always had a great friendship,” Dolly said (via People). “We’re both funny, and we both have a great and warped sense of humor so we’ve always had a good time. He’s pretty much a loner and a homebody, and I’m a gypsy. But when I’m home, I love that. We don’t do the same thing so it gives us different stuff to talk about. He doesn’t get involved in my business, and I don’t in his, so we have our own little world that we create for ourselves.”

Dolly’s A Holly Dolly Christmas album was just released. The album, which includes collaborations with Miley Cyrus, Jimmy Fallon, Michael Bublé, Willie Nelson and Billy Ray Cyrus, is available for purchase at DollyParton.com.
