Home Free and Don McLean have once again combined their talents. The two musical acts, who sang together on “American Pie” in 2021, for the 50th anniversary of McLean’s legendary tune, reunited in the studio again. The all-vocal group joins McLean on the title track of McLean’s forthcoming new album, “American Boys,” out on May 17.

“We are both honored and excited to be featured on our friend Don McLean’s forthcoming album, ‘American Boys,'” Home Free shares on social media. “We will be featured on the title track for the album, and we CAN’T WAIT for you to hear it. Get ready to have your minds blown.”

The recent Music City Walk of Fame inductee was thrilled to include Home Free on “American Pie,” the new 13-track project.

“This is an album of all new songs,” McLean says. “The title track, ‘American Boys,’ which features the guys from Home Free, is a fun song about the boys who invented rock and roll. America invented this music. Only America invented this music.”

Home Free felt honored when McLean invited them to join him for a new take on one of music’s most iconic songs.

“You could just tell that he’s performed this song for years and that it’s truly grown and changed, even for him, over the decades,” Austin Brown told The Tennessean after the song was released. “He had an almost narrative quality to his style of singing this now, and to me, even after knowing this song and hearing it my entire life, ‘American Pie’ felt more like a story than it ever had before.”

Home Free also has their own new record coming out. The five-man group will release their Crazy(er) Life album on March 29, coinciding with their tour of the same name, which kicks off on March 26 in Mount Pleasant, Texas.

“As the name of the tour suggests, that goes hand-in-hand with an album, also called Crazy(er) Life,” Tim Foust told Everything Nash. “Turns out, it’s another ten-year retrospective. We decided to do all-new recordings of all of the songs that we released on our first album after The Sing-Off.”

The record and tour will be the final time Brown appears with Home Free. The talented singer announced in February that he was leaving the group to pursue other interests.

“After 12 years, I’m truly amazed looking back at what we’ve built together,” Brown said. “These guys have become so much more than friends; we’re brothers and we always will be. I’m grateful for their unwavering support throughout this journey and moving forward, and I will always be their biggest fan! Lord knows I wouldn’t be who I am without them and whoever is lucky enough to join this amazing group next is truly in for the ride of their life.”
