A collection of some of Jo Dee Messina‘s biggest hits will soon be released. Heads Carolina, Tails California: The Best of Jo Dee Messina will be out on March 10, featuring 11 of Messina’s biggest hits, including “Heads Carolina, Tails California,” “Bye Bye,” “Bring On the Rain” and more. The new project will also be Messina’s first release available on vinyl.
“It’s amazing to look back over a catalog and have so many songs with so many memories attached,” Messina says. “Now, to have them come out on vinyl? Wow! It’s a new way to hold those memories. It’s very exciting!”
The Massachusetts native returned to the spotlight in 2022, thanks to Cole Swindell‘s No. 1 hit, “She Had Me At Heads Carolina,” a riff on her debut hit. The two also surprised the crowd by performing the song at the 2022 CMA Awards. It was Swindell’s idea to honor her iconic song with a song of his own, from his latest Stereotype album, which was a surprise to Messina.
“I was kind of taken aback that they chose ‘Heads Carolina’ as the song,” Messina told Billboard. “Out of any song they could have chosen from that time, the fact that they chose [it] was an honor. I heard about “She Had Me at Heads Carolina” from the original writers of “Heads Carolina, Tails California.” They let me know the song was written and sent me a copy of it.”
Messina also performed with Reba McEntire for two shows at the end of 2022, as part of McEntire’s Reba: Live in Concert Arena Tour.
“Walking off the bus, we stepped into a well-oiled machine of kind, gracious and professional personnel,” Messina said at the time. “Reba and her entire organization were such a joy to be around. The audiences were incredible and sharing a stage with Reba McEntire is beyond anything I could’ve dreamed of. I’m still pinching myself over the past weekend.”
