Lady A Reflect on Their Favorite Christmas Memories

Lady A is getting a bit nostalgic over the holidays. The trio, made up of Charles Kelley, Hillary Scott and Dave Haywood, is reflecting on some of their favorite Christmas memories from years gone by.

“One of my favorite holiday memories is, recently, the last Christmas,” Charles shared with the Country Music Association, ahead of their CMA Country Christmas performance. “Ward, he finally was three-and-a-half, and he really understood what it meant to walk down, and have his presents under the tree, and all of the presents from Santa out. That was something special for me.”

For Hillary, her favorite Christmas memory involves her favorite toy she received from Santa Claus as a child.

“I think probably one of my most special childhood memories of Christmas growing up is, I got a pink Barbie car when I was little,” Hillary recalled. “I rode that thing around everywhere, in the freezing cold, and it’s one of my most memorable gifts that Santa ever brought me.”

Dave and his wife, Kelli, celebrate not just Christmas but the birthday of their youngest child, Lillie, who was born on December 22, 2017.

“I think my favorite Christmas memory is, my daughter was born right before Christmas, so we were in the hospital, coming home a couple years ago,” Dave shared. “It’s a special holiday; her birthday and Christmas are right there back to back.”

Lady A also performed both “Wonderful Christmastime” and “Little Saint Nick” during CMA Country Christmas. Both songs are from their recent On This Winter’s Night Deluxe.

“We’ve always loved the holiday season, but it has become even more magical now that we’re parents,” Hillary said of the record. “So, we thought we’d add on a new, original song that was inspired by our kids and our take on a few of our favorites, which has brought us so much joy. I think we could all use a little extra holiday cheer this year!”

Lady A originally released On This Winter’s Night in 2012. In addition to Wonderful Christmastime” and “Little Saint Nick,” they also included “That Spirit of Christmas” and an original song, “Christmas Through Your Eyes,” written by all three Lady A members.

“The three of us sat down and wrote a song called ‘Christmas Through Your Eyes,’ about kind of regaining the magic of seeing Christmas through the eyes of our children, which was a really fun write,” Dave explained.
