Luke Combs Admits He Feels Guilty About Having a Bad Day

Luke Combs might be the biggest country star right now, but he is also human. The 33-year-old admits he can get down, just like everybody else, except his bad day is also accompanied by guilt, since so much of his life is going so well.

“When I do feel like I’m having a bad day, a lot of times I feel guilty about it, because I’m like, ‘I have my dream job,'” Combs acknowledges on Audacy’s Katie & Company, referencing one of the songs on his Gettin’ Old album, out now. “On most days, I do feel like a ‘five-leaf clover’ guy, but some days, I feel like, ‘How did I end up here?’ While also, to everyone else, [I’m] on top of the world, so to speak. And then you have a bad day, and you feel kind of guilty about it.”

When Combs’ debut single, “Hurricane,” was released in 2016, he had no idea that he was at the beginning of a record-breaking career. That song, like the 14 that followed, all hit No. 1, making Combs one of country music’s biggest success stories. But even that success came with a price, and a pretty hefty one at that.

“I’m 30-years-old, and all of a sudden the CEO of this huge company,” Combs reflects. “That can be a heavy weight on you. And again, I’m not looking for any sympathy, but I wish I would have had somebody to talk to about those things when they were happening because there’s not a lot of people who have been in this particular situation.”

One thing that can always make Combs smile is his son, Tex, born last June.

“It’s awesome,” Combs boasts. “He’s such a good kid, too. He doesn’t really cry very much ever; he’s just real happy all the time. Even when he’s teething or sick, he’s still just in a really great mood, so I don’t know where he got that from.”

The North Carolina native is going to have to enjoy his son from afar for the next several months. He just embarked on his World Tour, which includes shows in the United States, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, and more over the next several months.

“When I’m gone, I look forward to coming home and seeing him and such,” Combs says. “Thank God for FaceTime and stuff like that… I wouldn’t trade in being a dad for the world.”

Combs and his wife, Nicole, just announced they are expecting their second baby, also a boy. Riley GreenLainey Wilson, Flatland Cavalry and Brent Cobb are serving as the opening acts for some dates on Combs’ World tour, with Cody Johnson and Lane Pittman taking over opening act duties for some of the overseas dates as well.
