Scotty McCreery Announces New Single, ‘Cab In A Solo’ [LISTEN]

We now know what Scotty McCreery‘s cryptic social media posts mean. The American Idol alum announces the release of “Cab In A Solo,” out on August 18. The song is the debut single from McCreery’s forthcoming new album, which follows his 2021 Same Truck  record.

McCreery announced the news on social media.

Took some buddies up to the mountains of North Carolina to do nothing but write some country music. I’m proud to say one of those songs turned out to be one of my favorites I’ve ever written. “Cab In A Solo” is out August 18th.

“Took some buddies up to the mountains of North Carolina to do nothing but write some country music,” McCreery shares. “I’m proud to say one of those songs turned out to be one of my favorites I’ve ever written. ‘Cab In A Solo’ is out August 18th.”

The North Carolina native first posted a picture of him with a bottle of wine and a red Solo cup, captioning it, “It’s lookin’ like my plan didn’t work out at all.” He followed that up with another post, with an audio clip, showing a red Solo cup and a bottle of wine.

Earlier this year, McCreery said he had written plenty of songs for his next project, even as “It Matters To Her,” his final single from Same Truck, was still climbing the charts.

“1 mountain house. 2 days. 5 guys. 13 songs written,” McCreery captioned some photos on social media. “Unreal mountain writing retreat this week. Can’t wait for yall to hear this stuff!”

Same Truck included the multi-week, No. 1 hit, “Damn Strait,” and “You Time,” which also landed at the top of the charts. While he hasn’t revealed too many details about his new album, the 29-year-old insists it will still be a nod to the music, and artists, he grew up loving, and still loves today.

“It’s country,” McCreery told Audacy’s Katie & Company. “Our steel guitar player, Mike Johnson, was in the studio with us, and he’s like, ‘Man, I actually get to play country music this week!’ He was loving it, and I love singing that stuff, so hopefully folks are ready for a little dose of country music.”

McCreery will also include songs about son, Avery, who will turn one in October, on his next record.

“There’s definitely gonna be some baby songs, as you could guess,” McCreery told Taste of Country. “My music for sure has kind of leaned a little bit into that autobiographical stuff. Something that I learned about music is how alike we all are, rather than different. When I talk about my life, I could be talking about thousands of other people’s lives, and they relate to it, too. So there’ll be a lot of life stuff. Just about not taking things for granted, and that’s where I’m at right now — just appreciating this new stage of life, and new fatherhood.”

McCreery has already been playing some of his new songs live, which he says all have to pass his own personal test on whether it will or will not make it onto his record.

“For me, I kind of have [four] things: live it, love it, know it, believe it,” McCreery explained to Indiana’s Journal & Courier. “It’s got to be something that I really believe in and love and know about. Some writers are awesome at kind of using your imagination. And if that’s your thing, then go for it. But for me, what I’ve found that works is just writing about my real life stuff. Like ‘Five More Minutes‘ was for my grand-daddy. ‘This It It’ was me and my wife’s wedding song. It’s all these little things that I just try to incorporate into the music.”

McCreery has plenty of concert dates on the calendar over the next few months. He has also been announced as one of the performers for this year’s Opry Country Christmas. Find music and tour dates at ScottyMcCreery.com.
