Alexandra Kay Celebrates the End of Her Successful Backroad Therapy Tour

Alexandra Kay has wrapped up her successful Backroad Therapy Tour, capping off a whirlwind year that also included opening for Tim McGraw on his McGraw Tour 2022, and making her long-awaited Grand Ole Opry debut. The Illinois native reflected on the year in a heartfelt post on Facebook, celebrating how much her career grew in 2022.

“I remember so vividly the days when I would walk in to clubs and restaurants ready to play a 4 hour show.. having driven 5 hours to the venue..and I only sold 6 tickets,” Kay begins. “I’m telling you this because as we set out on the Backroad Therapy Tour…I admit that young, anxious girl was still living inside of me.. scared no one would show up.”

Fortunately, Kay’s fears were unfounded, with the rising star selling out shows in venues she once dreamed about playing in.

“Every night we would huddle up, thank the Lord for another day of doing what we love for a living,” Kay writes. “And I would step out on the stage.. and my heart would burst into flames. Sold-out shows, hundreds of you screaming my songs word for word, note for note. I was in shock.. every night.  I want you to know that most nights I held back tears, some nights I let them fall.. but every minute of this I cherished, I gave my all, I FELT with so much pride. YOU showed up for me every night, YOU stood in meet and greet line for hours, waited in the cold for hours to get up front, you showed up in my t-shirt and you screamed my lyrics.. and I will always remember that.”

Kay also thanked those who were on the road with her, including her opening acts and her band and crew.

“THANK YOU to the best band and team in the universe for running yourself ragged to make this tour the success that it was,” Kay says. “It takes an army and I’d go to battle with mine any day. I love you guys.  Thank you to the incredibly talented women who graced the stage with me during this tour Haley Mae Campbell, Lauren Weintraub, Julia Cole. All three of you ladies are talented beyond belief and I am so blessed to have gotten to share the stage with you.”

Kay closed her emotional post by acknowledging the hard work she, and everyone else, put into the year, without the support of a major record label.
.
“I have had MANY suits in my industry doubt that we could pull this off,” Kay concludes. “But we did.. as a completely independent female in country music. We did it… and I am so proud of that. I’ll never forget The Backroad Therapy Tour and the memories we made. THANK you from the bottom of my heart for showing up for me. I can’t wait for you to hear what we have coming for you next year.”

Kay might have had a big 2022, but she could have an even bigger 2023. The singer-songwriter is working on her first full-length album, which will include both “Skip This Part” and her current single, “Backroad Therapy.”

“Those were the first two singles off my record that’s coming out at the beginning of the year. I am not gonna release any release dates or anything else on that,” Kay tells Music Mayhem. “I’m playing another song tonight that will be on that record, and it’ll be my third single off that record, but it’ll be titled Backroad Therapy, and I’m just really excited for the world to get a full project for me.”
