Carrie Underwood Flies High On the Denim & Rhinestones Tour

Carrie Underwood‘s opening night of her The Denim & Rhinestones Tour is officially in the books. The American Idol alum soared to new heights, during her sold-out show at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville, South Carolina, by incorporating some of the trapeze work she used for her Reflection Las Vegas residency, flying high over the crowd during her show.

Underwood performed several of the songs from her Denim & Rhinestones album, including her debut single from the project, “Ghost Story,,” her current single, “Hate My Heart,” the record’s title track (which included a choreographed dance with her tour opener, Jimmie Allen), and more. Underwood also showed off her rocking side, with an epic cover of the Guns N’ Roses hit, “Welcome to the Jungle.”

Underwood’s “Ghost Story” video also shows off her daring acrobatic moves, an idea she says was fully hers.

“It was my idea,” the singer reveals on Lon Helton’s Country Countdown USA. “I’m the one who put myself in the air. We had my show in Vegas, and we had aerialists. I would watch them every night, and it looked like a challenge. So for this song, the reason I wanted this as the first single was because I could do a lot with it and I want to fly. I’m not a daredevil, but I like to push myself. Sometimes that involves a little danger. Why not? You only live once.”

The mother of two was eager to hit the road, for the first time since her 2019 Cry Pretty Tour.

“I think for me being able to play live and go on tour and be on stage, every night it’s so much fun,” Underwood shared with her record label. “That two hours I’m on stage … I get to play a character, I get to go into this other world and everybody’s having a good time and I’m having a good time. I mean I feel like I was just born to sing, so that’s my favorite part of the day is when I get to sing.”

Underwood’s The Denim & Rhinestones Tour runs through March 17, 2023, and includes shows at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena and Madison Square Garden in New York City.
