Home Free Talks Grand Ole Opry, New ‘Crazy(er) Life’ Album and Tour [EXCLUSIVE]

Home Free made a triumphant return to the Grand Ole Opry last week, performing two separate nights. For the all-vocal group, who has performed on the sacred stage more than 20 times, it still feels exhilarating, every single time.

“It never gets old … It’s nice to finally do this, and not have our knees knocking together on our way in,” Tim Foust tells Everything Nash.

Home Free performed three of their biggest hits, including their jaw-dropping take on Lee Greenwood‘s “God Bless the USA.” But more than performers, Home Free are also diehard country music fans, determined to not miss one single performance.

“We sit in the pews on stage, as often as we can,” Austin Brown reveals.

Their Grand Ole Opry performances came at the cusp of a busy season for Home Free. The five-man group will kick off their Crazy(er) Life Tour on March 26, ahead of the release of their Crazy(er) Life album on March 29. The new project is re-recorded versions of songs on their 2014 Crazy Life album, the first record they released after winning The Sing-Off. Both songs from Crazy(er) Life and their previous hits will be part of their cross-country tour.

“It’s a mixture of the stuff folks have come to know and love from Home Free,” Foust hints. “Stuff from all of our albums, our music videos, our time on The Sing-Off, and of course, we’ll be doing stuff from our new album, Crazy(er) Life.”

Although they didn’t know it at the time, when Home Free released Crazy Life a decade ago, they were on the cusp of a career explosion that would take them all over the country and around the world, performing in front of sold-out crowds. There is an assuredness and familiarity with the songs on Crazy Life, which translated into a different experience in the studio for Home Free.

“This is the first time we’ve ever gone in the studio with songs in our bones,” Foust shares. “Usually, we’re working on new material, and we’re still learning how to perform it the best we can. Whereas, some of these songs, we’ve literally been singing for ten years straight. So it’s nice to go into the studio confident on how to perform them.”

Adam Chance, who joined the group in 2016, is the only Home Free member who wasn’t on the Crazy Life record.

“I wasn’t on the original, so it’s been fun for me to add my own flair to these things, and do some stuff that I’ve only done some of these songs live, a couple of times, so it’s all fresh to me,” Chance says.

By their own admission, none of the four current Home Free members who competed on The Sing-Off in 2013 could have ever predicted how much that one TV show would change, quite literally, everything for them.

“Our only goal on The Sing-Off was to not get kicked off first,” Foust says with a laugh.

Crazy(er) Life follows their AS SEEN ON TV album, out last November, but more music is coming. Home Free has already said they were working on a new set of tunes, which fans can expect by the end of 2024.

“I will tell you that there will be another album out this year,” Foust hints.
