Martina McBride is gaining a son-in-law! The Grand Ole Opry member announced on social media that her oldest daughter, Delaney, is engaged to her longtime boyfriend, Cole.
“Remember that little girl with the curly hair I posted for her birthday on the 22nd?” McBride shared on social media on December 31. “Yeah. Well that little girl got ENGAGED yesterday!! Such a happy happy day. Cole asked John and me for our blessing so we all knew it was happening and planned a pretty brunch. The whole day those two were on Cloud 9. Us too. These two sweet souls found each other and are so strong together. We love Cole and welcome him to the McBride family. So happy for them both.”
Delaney, who just turned 28, works as a licensed massage therapist, personal chef and doula. McBride previously opened up about her daughters, including Emma and Ava, and why being a mother was far more important to her than her career.
“It became my priority,” McBride told People. “I felt like it was important for me to try to keep things as sane and normal as possible for the kids, so I turned down a lot: TV opportunities and touring overseas for extended periods of time. But I wouldn’t trade it for anything.”
McBride’s children might be the daughters of country music royalty, but the 56-year-old made sure that they didn’t get any special treatment, just because she was a celebrity.
“I feel like it robs them of their satisfaction when they do a good job or they earn something,” McBride maintained. “I mean, there have been times where I’ve been like, ‘This is ridiculous. My kid has one pair of shoes. Why does she just have one pair of shoes?’ But I had one pair of shoes when I was a kid, and I was fine.’”
Delaney and Cole will have a good example for marriage by looking at her parents. The McBrides have been married since 1988, and say the secret to their success is simply spending time together.
“John and I really like hanging out and experiencing new things together,” McBride told People. “We try to go out once a week, even if it’s just to go grab a beer or a cup of coffee or go for a walk … We did that a lot when the kids were little, but now that two of them have moved out of the house and the other one is driving, we spend a lot of time together. I’m glad we like each other, because when you’re at your empty nest at the end of the day, it’s important to have somebody who you can just be silent with.”
