Rascal Flatts planned on being on their farewell Life is a Highway Tour this year, which was canceled because of COVID-19. The group, made up of Gary LeVox, Jay DeMarcus and Joe Don Rooney, was going to disband at the end of the tour, but without the ability to be on the road this year, they admit they have no idea what they will do in 2021.

“Going into this year we were gearing up for an emotional year, for sure, and every show was gonna matter just so much more with each one we did,” Joe Don said (via their record label). “Just to have your legs cut completely out from under you with all your plans, this has definitely changed all those emotions and all those feelings we thought we’d be feeling. It’s also a celebration of 20 years, which is just an incredible milestone for anything, to be doing it for 20 years is really special. We had so much that we were looking forward to with this whole year, and this has just completely wiped all that out.

“It’s almost like a clean slate of emotions going, ‘Well, when, if ever again, can we maybe take what this year was gonna be and apply it to the year ahead, whenever that might be,'” he continued. “We just don’t know. We’re completely clueless for what that might be. So the emotions I think have changed a little bit maybe, because now we’re just looking to see what we might be able to do. But the one thing remains true, is that we’re still able to make music and put music out and that’s got us on a pretty good high right now.”

The threesome previously hinted that they might reschedule their Life is a Highway Tour next year instead.

“We don’t wanna leave people hanging and just go away,” Jay stated. “We certainly want to go out and celebrate with them. As to when and how that’s gonna happen, we simply don’t know yet. But we’re really, really focused right now on what the next steps are gonna be as far as getting back on the road and getting in front of the fans and not only celebrating… [an] incredible 20 years with them, but also giving them a chance to see us for what may be one of the last times we’re around.”
